The Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania is an independent statutory body, established on the 1 January 1991. The Legal Aid Commission Act 1990 gives us our powers and tells us what our responsibilities are.
We are committed to providing Tasmanians with equal access to justice through statewide programs of advice, representation, community education and Primary Dispute Resolution conferences. The Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania is responsible to a board of Commissioners and is headed by the Director, Mr Norman Reaburn.
We have individual managers responsible for each of our activities: Criminal Law Practice, Family Law Practice, Advice and Community Education; Assignments; Finance and Support Services.
