| 2.1 | Appellants | ||
| Aid may be granted for an appeal against conviction and/or sentence where there exists: | |||
| a. | a reasonable prospect of success; or | ||
| b. | a substantial advantage to the applicant such as regaining his or her liberty, livelihood or employment; or a substantial reduction in the sentence. | ||
| 2.2 | Aid for appeals on a matter of legal principle, which would not give rise to a substantial benefit to the applicant can only be granted by the Director or a Legal Aid Committee. | ||
| 2.3 | Respondents | ||
| Legal assistance may be granted to respond to a Crown appeal without regard to the merit test. | |||
