Applying for aid for a client

How do you apply?

Lawyers apply for legal aid on behalf of their client.

All applications are submitted online using our electronic lodgement system.

Legal firms who do legal aid work need to be registered to use the online system.

How do you register for electronic lodgement?

For details on how to register contact your nearest Legal Aid office or send us an email.

Once a legal firm is registered they will be sent full access details for electronic lodgement.

What are the guidelines for assessing applications?

Our grants officers apply the LACT Guidelines for Grants of Aid  1.2mb PDF (78 pages) to assess applications. This document contains the complete set of guidelines for determining the granting of legal aid.

How long does it take to get the result of an application?

Applications are usually processed within 24 hours and the grants officer's decision will be sent via email to the legal firm.
