Apply for legal aid

How do you apply for legal aid?

You can apply for legal aid through either Tasmania Legal Aid or through a private lawyer. The choice is yours. The same guidelines and tests will apply.

To apply through Tasmania Legal Aid, simply come into one of our clinic advice sessions in Burnie, Devonport, Launceston or Hobart. You don’t need an appointment. To find out the times and days in your area see clinic advice information.

To apply through a private lawyer, make an appointment with a lawyer of your choice.

Find a lawyer

The Law Society of Tasmania has a database of law firms which you can search to find a lawyer in your local area.
