Hears appeals from decisions of single judges of the Court and from the Federal Circuit Court of Australia in non family law matters.
The Court’s jurisdiction covers almost all civil matters arising under Australian Federal Law and some summary and indictable criminal matters. It also has jurisdiction to hear and determine matters arising under the Constitution. It also exercises as a first instance jurisdiction to hear objections to decisions made by the Commissioner of Taxation and determines native title determination applications and to be responsible for their mediation.
