Increase in legal fees 2023 - 2024

Tasmania Legal Aid has again increased the hourly rate paid to private legal practitioners.

From 1 July 2023 fees were increased by 2%, reflecting the average of indexation received by TLA.

Practitioners play an important role in delivering services to vulnerable Tasmanians, with around $7.95M paid in grants of aid in 2022-23, an increase of $1.25M from the previous year.

The new rate applies to all new grants of aid and extensions made from 1 July 2023. Aid granted before 1 July 2023 is paid at the rate of the time of the approval, even where the work is performed after 1 July 2023.

The Elodge system automatically applies the hourly rate relevant to the grant of aid, so you will not need to do anything extra when submitting claims.
